TV Lately #5

teenwolf_promoShow: Teen Wolf

Network: MTV

# of Seasons Aired: S4 airing now

Currently Watching: Season 2

Premise: “MTV’s reboot of the classic 1980s cult movie Teen Wolf. Scott is a typical high school student until one night he is bitten by a strange animal while walking in the woods. His best friend tries to help him understand the changes he’s going through as he becomes a werewolf.” -TV.com

Thoughts: I admitted in my last post that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed season 1 of Teen Wolf, and I’m happy to report that season 2 was only an improvement in many ways. A huge plus this season was the character development. Allison, Derek, and Isaac had especially awesome story arcs. Allison’s was particularly spectacular. My heart broke for her, but at the same time she drove me crazy! I also found this season that the only relationships I am shipping are the friendships between Derek and Scott & Stiles and Scott which is strange for me as I ALWAYS have some romantic ship. Despite all of the awesome character development, I did feel that this season did not have quite as cohesive a plot as the first. It seemed that there were a lot more subplots and it sometimes felt they didn’t flow together well.

Favorite Episodes: Raving, Fury, Battlefield

Show: Broadchurch

Network: ITV broadchurch

# of Seasons Aired: S2 in production / American remake Gracepoint to air this fall

Currently Watching: Season 1

Premise: A small community in Dorset is rocked by the death of local boy Danny Latimer and DI Alec Hardy (Tennant) is drafted in to head up the investigation instead of local officer DS Ellie Miller (Colman).
As the investigation proceeds, the lives of the locals – from the Latimer family, to priest Paul Coates and mysterious Susan Wright are explored as they deal with the life changing events. – TV.com

Thoughts: Put David Tennant in a show and it’s pretty much guaranteed that I’ll watch. While his presence may have initiated my interest, the first episode of Broadchurch completely blew me away. Brilliantly written, with a superb insanely talented cast, and an intense mystery Broadchurch is a gem. It is truly a perfect character study of people in the face of loss, suspicion, and life itself. Plus, the show is gorgeously shot, so it’s a joy to watch.

*If at all still possible, avoid any/all spoilers about the ending as this would be a treat to watch unsullied (I’m pretty sure I accidentally spoiled myself a while ago, but I’m hoping I’m wrong).

# of Seasons Aired: S4 will premiere shortly

Currently Watching: Season 1

Premise: “MTV’s reboot of the classic 1980s cult movie Teen Wolf. Scott is a typical high school student until one night he is bitten by a strange animal while walking in the woods. His best friend tries to help him understand the changes he’s going through as he becomes a werewolf.” -TV.com

Thoughts: I originally watched the first 2-3 episodes of Teen Wolf when the show first premiered, but I gave up on it. However, the dedicated fandom and my best friend finally convinced me to give it another shot. Once again it was a bit of a slow start, but now I’m hooked and I can’t wait for the next season to arrive at the library! I still don’t completely love Scott or Jackson, but I adore Stiles, Lydia, Allison, and even most of the adults! Sometimes the effects can be a bit cheesy, but overall this is a fun, thrilling show.

Favorite Episodes: Night School, Code Breaker

Show: Firefly

Network: FOX firefly

# of Seasons Aired: 1 + movie

Currently watching: Season 1

Premise: “”Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand. I don’t care I’m still free, you can’t take the sky from me. Take me out to the black, tell them I ain’t coming back. Burn the land and boil the sea, you can’t take the sky from me……There’s no place I can be since I found Serenity, you can’t take the sky from me.” Firefly is set five hundred years from today in a new planetary system after humanity abandons “Earth That Was”. Under the leadership of Malcolm Reynolds, a renegade who fought against the new unified central government (the “Alliance”), the crew of the Firefly-class vessel Serenity struggles to survive any way they can.” -TV.com

Thoughts: I’ve watched Firefly multiple times, and each time I fall in love again. This rewatch is even more fun as I’m watching with my sister who hasn’t seen it before (jealous!). If you haven’t seen Firefly before, it is brilliant and you should be watching right now (it’s available on Netflix). The premise may seem rather strange, but it works especially when paired with the fantastic, hugely talented cast and marvelous writing.

Series 5-7 in Quotes

Yes, so I must admit that pretty much every word that comes from either River or Strax is immediately a favorite. It is probably due to the inclusion of so many of River’s quotes, especially, that I was required to do two separate posts full of quotes. Whatever the reason, you get double the enjoyment!

DW_5x01_The_Eleventh_Hour_195“And what sort of job’s a kissogram?”
-The Doctor
“I go to parties, and… I kiss people. [clears her throat] With outfits. It’s a laugh!”
-Amy
“You were a little girl five minutes ago!”
-The Doctor
(The Eleventh Hour 5.1)

“But you’re not the first lot to have come here. Oh, there have been so many. And what you’ve got to ask is…what happened to them? […] Hello. I’m the Doctor. Basically…run.”
-The Doctor
(The Eleventh Hour 5.1)

“Amy Pond, there’s something you better understand about me, ’cause it’s important and one day your life may depend on it. I am definitely a madman with a box.”
-The Doctor
(The Eleventh Hour 5.1)

“The writing… the graffiti: Old High Gallifreyan. The lost language of the Time Lords. There were days, there were many days, where these words could burn stars, raise up empires, and topple gods.”
-The Doctor
“What does this one say?”
-Amy
“‘Hello, sweetie.'”
-The Doctor
(Time of Angels 5.4)

“But…it didn’t make the noise.”
-The Doctor
“What noise?”
-River
“You know the [attempts to imitate the noise the TARDIS usually makes when it lands]”
-The Doctor
It’s not supposed to make that noise. You leave the brakes on.”
-River
(Time of Angels 5.4)

“You’re so his wife.”
-Amy
“Oh, Amy, Amy, Amy. This is the Doctor we’re talking about. Do you really think it could be anything that simple?”
-River
“Yep.”
-Amy
“You’re good. I’m not saying you’re right. But you’re very, very…good.”
-River
(Time of Angels 5.4)

“Didn’t anyone ever tell you? There’s one thing you never put in a trap if you’re smart. If you value your continued existence, if you have any plans about seeing tomorrow, there’s one thing you never, ever put in a trap.”
-The Doctor
“And what would that be, sir?”
-Angel Bob
“Me.”
-The Doctor
(Time of Angels 5.4)

“Dr. Song, I’ve lost good clerics today. You trust this man?”5x05_Flesh_and_Stone_109
-Father Octavian
“I absolutely trust him.”
-River
“He’s not some kind of madman, then?”
-Father Octavian
“…I absolutely trust him.”
-River
(Flesh and Stone 5.5)

“Father Octavian, when the Doctor’s in the room, your one and only mission is to keep him alive long enough to get everyone else home. And trust me, it’s not easy. Now if he’s dead back there, I’ll never forgive myself. And if he’s alive, I’ll never forgive him. And Doctor, you’re standing right behind me aren’t you?”
-River
(Flesh and Stone 5.5)

“Can I trust you, River Song?”
-The Doctor
“If you like. But where’s the fun in that?”
-River
(Flesh and Stone 5.5)

“Rory! That’s a relief! I thought I had burst out of the wrong cake. Again. That reminds me, there’s a girl standing outside in a bikini. Can someone let her in, give her a jumper? Lucy. Lovely girl. [whispers] Diabetic.  Now then, Rory, we need to talk about your fiancée.  She tried to kiss me.  Tell you what though, you’re a lucky man; she’s a great kisser! … Funny how you can say something in your head and it sounds fine.”
-The Doctor
(The Vampires of Venice 5.6)

“Please tell me you have a plan.”
-Amy
“No, I have a thing. It’s like a plan, but with more greatness.”
-The Doctor
(Vincent and the Doctor 5.10)

DW_5x10__Vincent_and_the_Doctor_306“Hold my hand, Doctor. Try to see what I see. We’re so lucky we’re still alive to see this beautiful world. Look at the sky. It’s not dark and black and without character. The black is in fact deep blue. And over there! Lighter blue. And blowing through the blueness and the blackness, the winds swirling through the air. And there shining, burning, bursting through, the stars! Can you see how they roar their light? Everywhere we look, the complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes.”
-Vincent
“I’ve seen many things, my friend, but you’re right: nothing quite as wonderful as the things you see.”
-The Doctor
(Vincent and the Doctor 5.10)

“The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things.”
-The Doctor
(Vincent and the Doctor 5.10)

“You graffitied the oldest cliff face in the universe.”
-The Doctor
“You wouldn’t answer your phone!”
-River
(The Pandorica Opens 5.12)

“Well, I died, and turned into a Roman. It’s very distracting.”
-Rory
(The Pandorica Opens 5.12)

“Hello, Stonehenge! Who takes the Pandorica, takes the universe! But bad news, everyone, [jumps up from inside Stonehenge] ’cause guess who! Ha! Listen, you lot! You’re all whizzing about; it’s really very distracting. Could you all just stay still a minute, because I! Am! Talking! Now, the question of the hour is, “Who’s got the Pandorica?” Answer: I do. Next question: Who’s coming to take it from me? Come on! Look at me! No plan, no back-up, no weapons worth a damn! Oh, and something else, I don’t have anything to lose! So, if you’re sitting up there in your silly, little spaceship with all your silly, little guns, and you’ve got any plans on taking the Pandorica tonight, just remember who’s standing in your way! Remember every black day I ever stopped you, and then, and then, do the smart thing: Let somebody else try first.”
-The Doctor
(The Pandorica Opens 5.12)

“The universe is big, it’s vast and complicated, and ridiculous. And sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles. And that’s the theory. Nine hundred years, never seen one yet, but this would do me.”
-The Doctor
(The Pandorica Opens 5.12)

“Oh. Ok. I escaped, then. Brilliant. I love it when I do that. [Checks legs] Legs, yes. [Checks neck] Bow tie…cool. [Checks head. Disappointed] I can buy a fez.”
-The Doctor
(The Big Bang 5.13)

“There’s someone missing. Someone important, someone so, so important. Sorry everyone, but when I was a kid, I had an imaginary friend, theDW_5x13_The_Big_Bang_508 Raggedy Doctor, my Raggedy Doctor. But he wasn’t imaginary, he was real. [shouting] I remember you! I remember! I brought the others back; I can bring you home too! Raggedy man, I remember you and you are late for my wedding!
-Amy
(The Big Bang 5.13)

“River, who are you?”
-The Doctor
“You’re going to find out very soon now, and I’m sorry, but that’s when everything changes.”
-River
(The Big Bang 5.13)

“I’m being extremely clever up here and there’s no one standing around to look impressed! What’s the point in having you all?!”
-The Doctor
“Couldn’t you just slap him sometimes?”
-River
(The Impossible Astronaut 6.1)

“When I first met the Doctor, a long, long time ago, he knew all about me. Think about that. An impressionable young girl, and suddenly this man just drops out of the sky, and he’s clever, and mad, and wonderful, and knows every last thing about her. Imagine what that does to a girl.”
-River
“I don’t really have to.”
-Rory
“Trouble is, it’s all back to front. My past is his future. We’re traveling in opposite directions. Every time we meet, I know him more, he knows me less. I live for the days when I see him, but I know that every time that I do he’ll be one step further away. The day is coming when I’ll look into that man’s eyes, my Doctor, and he won’t have the faintest idea who I am. And I think it’s going to kill me.”
-River
(The Impossible Astronaut 6.1)

“What about Doctor Song? She dove off a rooftop!”
-Canton
“Don’t worry! She does that.”
-The Doctor
(Day of the Moon 6.2)

“Oh, this is my friend River. Nice hair, clever, and has her own gun. And unlike me, she really doesn’t mind shooting people. I shouldn’t like that. Kinda do, a bit.”
-The Doctor
“Thank you, sweetie.”
-River
(Day of the Moon 6.2)

“Time And Relative Dimension In Space. Yes, that’s it. Names are funny. It’s me. I’m the TARDIS.”
-Idris
“No, you’re not! You’re a bitey mad lady! The TARDIS is up and downy stuff in a big blue box!”
-The Doctor
(The Doctor’s Wife 6.4)

DW_60x4_The_Doctor_s_Wife_296“Then you stole me. And I stole you.”
-Idris
“I borrowed you.”
-The Doctor
“Borrowing implies the eventual intention to return the thing that was taken. What makes you think I would ever give you back?”
-Idris
(The Doctor’s Wife 6.4)

“You didn’t always take me where I wanted to go.”
-The Doctor
“No, but I always took you where you needed to go.”
-Idris
(The Doctor’s Wife 6.4)

“Goodbye?”
-The Doctor
“No, I just wanted to say… hello. Hello, Doctor. It’s so very, very nice to meet you.”
-Idris
“Please. I don’t want you to. Please…”
-The Doctor
(The Doctor’s Wife 6.4)

“There’s someone coming. I don’t know where he is, or what he’s doing, but trust me, he’s on his way. … There’s a man who will never let us down. And not even an army can get in the way. … He’s the last of his kind. He looks young but he’s lived for hundreds and hundreds of years. And wherever they take you, Melody, however scared you are, I promise you, you’ll never be alone. … Because this man is your father. … He has a name but the people of our world know him better … as the Last Centurion.”
-Amy
(A Good Man Goes to War 6.7)

“Oh, turn it off. I’m breaking in not out. This is River Song, back in her cell. Oh, and I’ll take breakfast at the usual time. Thank you! [dances DW_6x07_A_Good_Man_Goes_To_War_131forward, only to see a man standing in shadow] Oh, are you boys dressing as Romans now? I thought nobody read my memos.”
-River
(A Good Man Goes to War 6.7)

“It’s okay, she’s still all yours. And really you should call her “Mummy”, not “Big Milk Thing”.”
-The Doctor
“Okay, what are you doing?”
-Amy
“I speak Baby”
-The Doctor
(A Good Man Goes to War 6.7)

“You think I wanted this? I didn’t do this! This wasn’t me!”
-The Doctor
“This was exactly you; all this. All of it. You make them so afraid. When you began all those years ago, sailing off to see the universe, did you ever think you’d become this? The man who can turn an army around at the mention of his name: Doctor. The word for healer and wise man throughout the universe. We get that word from you, you know, but if you carry on the way you are, what might that word come to mean? To the people of the Gamma Forests, the word “doctor” means “mighty warrior.” How far you’ve come, and now they’ve taken a child. The child of your best friends, and they’re going to turn her into a weapon, just to bring you down. And all this, my love, in fear of you.”
-River
(A Good Man Goes to War 6.7)

“He’s called Alfie. And what are you doing here anyway?”
-Craig
“Yes, he likes that … Alfie. Though personally, he likes to be called Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All.”
-The Doctor
(Closing Time 6.12)

“No! He’s your dad! You can’t just call him “Not Mum”.”
-The Doctor
“”Not Mum”?”
-Craig
“That’s you! “Also Not Mum”, that’s me! And everybody else is [leans in to Alfie] “Peasants”. That’s a bit unfortunate.”
-The Doctor
(Closing Time 6.12)

“I’ve got a time machine, Dorium! It’s all still going on! For me, it never stops! Liz the First is still waiting in a glade to elope with me! I could help Rose Tyler with her homework! I could go on all Jack’s stag parties in one night!”
-The Doctor
(Closing Time 6.12)

“Such a basic mistake, Madame Kovarian: take a child, raise her into the perfect psychopath, introduce her to the Doctor. Who else was I going to fall in love with?”
-River
(The Wedding of River Song 6.13)

“You took my baby from me, and hurt her. And now she’s all grown up, and she’s fine. But I’ll never see my baby again.”
-Amy
“But you’ll still save me, though. Because he would. And you’d never do anything to disappoint your precious Doctor.”
-Madame Kovarian
“The Doctor is very precious to me, you’re right. But do you know what else he is, Madame Kovarian? Not here. River Song didn’t get it all from you. Sweetie.”
-Amy
(The Wedding of River Song 6.13)

Doctor_Who_6x13_The_Wedding_Of_River_Song_487“I have to die!”
-The Doctor
Shut up! I can’t let you die without knowing you are loved — by so many and so much — and by no one more than me.”
-River
(The Wedding of River Song 6.13)

“Is there a word for total screaming genius that sounds modest and a tiny bit sexy?”
-Oswin
“Doctor. You call me the Doctor.”
-The Doctor
“I see what you did there.”
-Oswin
(Asylum of the Daleks 7.1)

“So don’t you dare talk to me about waiting outside a box, because that is nothing, Rory, nothing, compared to giving you up!”
-Amy
(Asylum of the Daleks 7.1)

“Then why do you keep coming back for us?”
-Amy
“Because you were the first. The first face this face saw. And you’re seared onto my hearts, Amelia Pond. You always will be. I’m running to you and Rory before you fade from me.”

No time, no space – just me. I’ve walked in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a madman. I’ve watched universes freeze and creations burn. I have seen things you wouldn’t believe. I have lost things you will never understand. And I know things. Doctor Who: Series 1-4 in Quotes

Doctor Who

Series 1-4 in Quotes

Yes, the obsession continues, and to prove to any of you who have not seen Doctor Who what a brilliant show this is, I decided to share my favorite quotes from the first four series of new Who(it was getting too long to do all seven, so expect a post with Eleven’s era quotes soon). Okay, I lie. Mostly, I just wanted a reason to read a bunch of Doctor Who quotes, and this was born of that. But either way, you get to enjoy the humor, heart, and intelligence that the writers of this show have infused it with.

“Nine hundred years of time and space, and I’ve never been slapped by someone’s mother.”
-The Doctor
(Aliens of London 1.4)

Dalek_522“The Daleks have failed! Now why don’t you finish the job, and make the Daleks extinct?! Rid the universe of your filth! Why don’t you just die?!”
-The Doctor
“You would make a good Dalek.”
-Dalek
(Dalek 1.6)

“I don’t age. I regenerate. But humans decay; you wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone that you—
-The Doctor
What, Doctor?”
-Rose
You can spend the rest of your life with me, but I can’t spend the rest of mine with you. I have to live on. Alone. That’s the curse of the Time Lords.”
-The Doctor
(School Reunion 2.3)

“Planet Earth. This is where I was born. And this is where I died. The first nineteen years of my life, nothing happened. Nothing at all, not ever. And then I met a man called the Doctor. A man who could change his face. And he took me away from home in his magical machine. He showed me the whole of time and space. I thought it would never end.”
-Rose
(Army of Ghosts 2.12)

“But here she is, Rose Tyler! Hm, she’s not the best I’ve ever had. Bit too blonde. Not too steady on her pins. A lot of that [makes a movement Army_of_Ghosts_471with his hand to indicate she talks too much] And just last week she stared into the heart of the time vortex and aged 57 years. But she’ll do.”
-The Doctor
“I’m forty!”
-Jackie
“Deluded. Bless. I’ll have to trade her in. Do you need anyone? She’s very good at tea. Well, when I say “very good” I mean not bad. Well, I say “not bad”—anyway, lead on. Allons-y—but not too fast. Her ankle’s going.”
-The Doctor
“I’ll show you where my ankle’s going!”
-Jackie
(Army of Ghosts 2.12)

“All right then. You really want to know? That’s the Doctor…Five million Cybermen? Easy. One Doctor? Now you’re scared.”
-Rose
(Doomsday 2.13)

“Rose Tyler, defender of the Earth… You’re dead—officially—back home. So many people died that day and you’ve gone missing. You’re on the list of the dead…Here you are, living your life day after day. The one adventure I can never have.”
-The Doctor
(Doomsday 2.13)

“Come on! We can all have a good flirt later!”
-The Doctor
“Is that a promise, Doctor?”
-William Shakespeare
“Oooh, 57 academics just punched the air!”
-The Doctor
(The Shakespeare Code 3.2)

“The wonderful world of space travel… The prettier it looks, the more likely it is to kill you.”
-Riley

Last_of_the_Time_Lords_011“I travelled across the world. From the ruins of New York, to the fusion mills of China, right across the radiation pits of Europe. And everywhere I went I saw people just like you, living as slaves! But if Martha Jones became a legend then that’s wrong, because my name isn’t important. There’s someone else. The man who sent me out there, the man who told me to walk the Earth. And his name is the Doctor. He has saved your lives so many times and you never even knew he was there. He never stops. He never stays. He never asks to be thanked. But I’ve seen him, I know him… I love him… And I know what he can do.”
-Martha
(The Last of the Time Lords 3.13)

“With Martha, like I said, it got… complicated. And that was all my fault. I just want a mate.”
-The Doctor
“You just want to mate?!”
-Donna
“I just want a mate!”
-The Doctor
“You’re not mating with me, sunshine!”
-Donna
A mate! I want A mate!”
-The Doctor

“Listen, Sister. You may have eyes on the back of your hands; but you’ll have eyes on the back of your head by the time I’m finished with you! Let me go!”
-Donna
(The Fires of Pompeii 4.2)

“It wasn’t the Doctor’s fault, but you need to be careful, because you know the Doctor’s wonderful and he’s brilliant, but he’s like fire…Stand too close, and people get burned.”

The last time I saw you, the real you — the future you, I mean — you turned up on my doorstep, with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Darillium to see the singing towers. Oh, what a night that was! The towers sang, and you cried. You wouldn’t tell me why, but I suppose you knew it was time. My time. Time to come to the Library. Doctor Who: Thoughts on Companions from an Odd Fan

If you follow me on Twitter, you’re probably aware that I’ve developed a Doctor Who habit. In the last few months, I’ve watched six and a half seasons of the “new Who,” and I’ve fallen completely in love. If you have not seen Doctor Who, I would highly recommend it as it’s quickly become one of my absolute favorite series. Anyway, instead of just randomly rambling on about the brilliance that is Doctor Who, I’m attempting to limit my thoughts to just the companions (if you aren’t familiar with the idea of the Doctor and his companions here’s an interesting recap). For further clarification, I will only be talking about the reboot (I haven’t had time yet to explore classic Who), and only the “major” companions.

Parting_of_the_Ways_586Rose Tyler is the first companion of the reboot, and she tends to inspire opposite reactions. Most fans seem to either love her or hate her, and very few stand in the middle. Personally, I love Rose. Okay, some people probably just cringed, but really everyone’s allowed to have their own opinion, right? Sometimes though, if you admit you love Rose, “diehard Who fans” will immediately dismiss you because if you love Rose it means you are just one of those romantic fangirls who are easy to dismiss (read this brilliant article for more thoughts on “real Whovians”). Also, I’ve heard Rose dismissed as unintelligent, an airhead, etc. Rose might not be a high class scholar, but she is street smart, quick on her feet, and caring. I love Rose because of the way she throws herself into what she does, the love she maintains for her family, and the beautiful friendship between her and the Doctor. Do I also like the romance between the Doctor and Rose? Yes, I do, so sue me, but I’d still love them just as much were they only friends.

After Rose we have Martha (technically we get a glimpse of Donna first, but yes). Now, I think Martha had a hard time coming in directly after Last_of_the_Time_Lords_898Rose and the events of “Doomsday.” But honestly, I found her to be frustrating for the first several episodes. I understand that the Doctor is this larger-than-life character who everyone falls for a little bit, but at the start, Martha was obsessed with him and her possessiveness seemed rather groundless. Now towards the end of Martha’s run, I will say that I came to really like her. I think she eventually became the strong, vibrant woman who she was supposed to be at the start, and I loved all the cameos she made after her run ended (that’s a hint! Can we please see Martha pop back up?).

Silence_in_the_Library_059The third companion of the reboot could definitely be counted as a fan favorite. Donna Noble. The hilarious, frustrating woman who began as something of an airhead but became this beautifully aware, caring woman (of course, only to have everything ripped away). I did not expect to like Donna, but from the moment she appeared in the TARDIS in her wedding dress, I was a fan. Season 4 remains my quickest watched season. I think I completed it in about two weeks because I was hooked utterly and completely. David Tennant and Catherine Tate made a brilliant team, and I loved the dynamic between them.

Okay, here is where the “odd fan” bit of the title comes into play because the Ponds followed Donna. Amy and Rory are well-loved, and while I do DW_7x05_The_Angels_Take_Manhattan_697like both characters, I never completely came to adore them. I’m certain there’s something wrong with me as I feel like one of the only Doctor Who fans who does not absolutely love these two. Don’t get me wrong. The Ponds are awesome characters. I even teared up at the end of “The Angels Take Manhattan,” but they just do not rank as my favorites.

Clara and I have a weird relationship. I started watching the show because of her (Quick explanation: I randomly Doctor_Who_-_The_Snowmen_282012_Christmas_Special29_974follow fandoms via recaps and Youtube even if I don’t actually watch the show/movie. Often my weird tendencies lead me to eventually start watching some of the shows I stalk. Anyway, I’ve followed Doctor Who from a distance for years- which is why I knew how a lot of the storylines ended before I started watching- but it wasn’t until I began seeing videos about “the impossible girl” that I knew I had to watch this show). Now, I cannot give a complete opinion about Clara as I have only watched as far at “The Snowmen,” but I will say I absolutely adored her in both that episode and in “Asylum of the Daleks” so I do not think my opinion will change much after finishing season 7.

Halloween Marathon Guide (for the Wimpy Viewer)

happyhalloween_1012

I am probably one of the oddest people in the world as Halloween is my favorite time of the year, but I am completely wimpy and I hate scary movies! So this Halloween I will be celebrating with a marathon of some of my favorite “non-scary” movies and TV episodes.

Television

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
buffyhalloween1“Halloween”

On Halloween Buffy, Willow and Xander are “volunteered” by Principal Snyder to take groups of kids trick-or-treating. Buffy seizes the opportunity to impress Angel by dressing as a woman from the time when he was human. When most of the kids in Sunnydale magically become whatever they were dressed as, it is up to soldier-Xander and ghost-Willow to find a way to break the spell and defend Buffy, who is now a weak and frail 18th century noblewoman. – TV.com

One of not only my favorite Halloween-themed episodes, but also one of my favorite BTVS episodes. This is really a game-changer for all of the characters as they all become their opposites. It also has Dru and Spike being awesome, creepy villains, Giles showing his dark side, and adorable Buffy/Angel love.

Castle
“Vampire Weekend”

It’s close to Halloween, and a man is found murdered in a graveyard – with a stick through his heart, and sporting fangs. Castle and Beckett track the murderer to a vampire cult, all the while Castle is trying on costumes for his Halloween party – costume mandatory! – TV.com

Another delightfully fun Halloween jaunt! This episode features a freaky murder case – dealing with vampires, of course- and Castle back in Fillion’s Firefly costume. All treat there’s no trick to be found with this one!

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody
TSL_suite613“The Ghost of 613”

When the twins find out about a ghost in Suite 613, Zack dares Cody to sleep overnight at the suite. They make a bet of who will run out scared first. – TV.com

Can I just mention how happy I am that this show is finally on Netflix? Because it’s epic! This episode is the perfect blend of humor and spooky. It is an early episode that showcases the great comedic timing of the cast as well as the clever writing the early seasons had.

Other Episodes to Include:

Dark Angel “Boo”
Wizards of Waverly Place “Halloween”
Sabrina the Teenage Witch – Any Halloween Episode
The Vampire Diaries “Haunted”
Phil of the Future “Halloween”
NCIS “Witch Hunt”

Movies

Return to Halloweentown

Marnie and Dylan have graduated high school and are now going to go to college at Witch U in Halloweentown. Marnie is offered a full scholarship, Marni’s mother, Gwen of course does not want her daughter at school in Halloweentown so she forces Dylan to tag along. At the school, witches and warlocks can’t use magic. Marnie soon makes a new friend named Aneesa, whom is a genie. Marnie soon discovers that she is partly to blame for the rules against the use of magic at school. At one point a box, with the name “S. Cromwell” inscribed on it, magically appears in front of her. Most people at the school believe that Marnie used her magic to conjure up the box, but it was brought to her by fate.  -IMDB.com

I know a lot of people don’t like this film because they recast Marnie, but I adore Sara Paxton so I really enjoy this movie. Plus, it also has Lucas Grabeel who is marvelous in anything. While this movie may seem a bit cheesy at times, it is all in good fun, and I try to watch it every year at Halloween.

Twitches twitches02

In the magic realm of Coventry, the twin sisters Artemis and Apolla are saved by their protectors Illeana and Karsh from the Darkness and brought to another dimension. They are adopted by different families but in their twenty-first birthday, their protectors force them to meet each other. Alex Fielding lost her mother three months ago and is alone seeking a job while Camryn Barnes lives with her beloved wealthy parents. Once together they find that they have magic powers and they should return to Coventry to save their biological mother and their kingdom from the Darkness. – IMDB.com

Another fabulous Disney Channel movie that’s a little bit predictable, a lot of heart, and has the amazing Mowry sisters as the leads. The killer music video from the film – featuring Aly & AJ’s “Rush” – also provides great incentive to check the film out.

Fun Size

Wren’s Halloween plans go awry when she’s made to babysit her brother, who disappears into a sea of trick-or-treaters. With her best friend and two nerds at her side, she needs to find her brother before her mom finds out he’s missing. – IMDB.com

Hilarious! Victoria Justice is always great for a comedy, but really Jackson Nicoll steals every scene he’s in (fun fact: he’s in the new Jackass movie)! This Halloween film isn’t scary at all, but it will certainly make you laugh repeatedly!

Others to Include:

The Boy Who Cried Werewolf
Hotel Transylvania
Casper Meets Wendy

Grading the Season Premieres (Fall ’13)

Grading the Season Premieres of the Fall ’13 Season

There will be spoilers for the first 1-2 episodes of the shows mentioned.

Once Upon a Time

OUaT_s3ep1“The Heart of the Truest Believer” & “Lost Girl”

The Good:

  • We get right to Neverland. I’m so glad we don’t have to have a long journey.
  • Greg & Tamara disappear quickly (hopefully it’s also permanent).
  • The actor playing Peter Pan is fabulously creepy.
  • Jennifer Morrison will make you tear up repeatedly.
  • The Neal & Mulan dynamic is adorable and hilarious.
  • MERMAIDS!
  • A brief appearance by Belle is definitely a highlight.

The Bad:

  • The bickering of Snow & Regina continues.
  • The flashback hair seemed quite crazy, and I swear Charming was wearing pink lipstick.
  • The predictability of Henry’s new friend being Pan. Completely obvious.
  • Special effects could still use some work.

Memorable Lines:

Neal & Mulan
“Yeah, they made a movie about you. It’s actually pretty good.”
“What’s a movie?”

“Can I ask you a question?”
“Yeah, I don’t know how to explain what a movie is.”

Hook
“Actually, I quite fancy you from time to time when you’re not yelling at me.”

Final Thoughts:

Solid premiere. Potential for the season, but still some of the old issues remain. 3.5 out of 5

Revenge

“Fear” & “Sin” revenge_s3ep1

The Good:

  • Nolan is free! And the Nolan & Emily friendship is back to being perfect.
  • Also, Nolan parachuting into the party to help Emily was brilliant.
  • Justin Hartley is as gorgeous as ever.
  • Emily VanCamp and Madeleine Stowe are still perfect playing opposite each other.
  • Charlotte becoming such a determined and driven character is awesome.
  • Emily’s morals come into play in the second episode, and I love it.
  • Sharpies and black hoodies return.
  • The flashforward. So many questions! So many possibilities.

The Bad:

  • Charlotte losing her baby (and the fact that it’s barely acknowledged in the premiere).
  • Everyone (i.e. Charlotte & Jack) hating on Emily makes me sad.
  • Also, I’m still disappointed that we didn’t get to see Jack’s immediate reaction to Emily’s revelation.
  • Aiden’s potential betrayal. Not happy.

Memorable Lines:

Nolan
“Wait, you didn’t tell him I was president of the inner circle, did you?”

Nolan
“Cause once you start taking down kittens…I’m out.”

Patrick
“I left the DNA test in my other jacket.”

Final Thoughts:

Fantastic restart. Looking forward to a new season!! 4.5 out of 5

The Vampire Diaries

TVD_s5ep1“I Know What You Did Last Summer”

The Good:

  • Damon & Elena are in love. Finally.
  • Bonnie is breaking my heart as a ghost, and the scenes with her & Jeremy are awesome.
  • Damon’s protectiveness regarding Jeremy is adorable.
  • Human Katherine is hilarious and surprisingly vulnerable, and I’m thrilled that they explain why she doesn’t just turn again.
  • Silas pretending to be Stefan refreshingly does not last long.
  • Caroline is hilarious with her plots regarding the unexpected roommate.

The Bad:

  • Caroline is still pushing Stefan/Elena.
  • Nadia. Not a fan.
  • Kat hurting Jeremy.
  • Damon as Stefan’s “demon” & Elena as his “angel.”

Memorable Quotes:

Elena
“Caroline, I’m not kidnapping our roommate!”

Damon & Jeremy
“Says the guy who once killed me!”
“Yeah, in the privacy of your own home!”

Final Thoughts:

Decent start to the season, but a few of the former issues remain. 3.5 out of 5

The Originals

“Always & Forever”originals_s1ep1

The Good:

  • Daniel Gillies. Everything about him is fantastic. He has a gorgeous voice. He’s a gentleman, suave, gorgeous, and dedicated to his family.
  • Mixing old scenes with new. This episode does have a few scenes from the original pilot which is a nice callback for viewers who watched it last spring, but it does have fresh content as well. It satisfies viewers ready for something new, but it also sets things up for new viewers who perhaps haven’t watched Vampire Diaries.
  • The witches. If you know me, you know I love witches, and this show has a plethora of great witches.
  • We really get a chance to know Hayley better, and I see a lot of potential for her. I’m also accepting and starting to even like the pregnancy storyline.
  • Marcel continues to be a great charismatic and fun villain.
  • We meet Marcel’s special “tool.”
  • Leah Pipes returns to TV, and although we don’t get a http://www.paper–dreams.org/wp-admin/post-new.phplot of her, I think there’s potential.

The Bad:

  • Klaus bringing back his daggers.
  • Beka hasn’t jumped ship yet.

Memorable Quotes:

Hayley
“About having a miracle baby with a psychotic one-night-stand?”

Final Thoughts:

Gorgeous, heartbreaking, and exciting start to a promising new series. 4 out of 5!

Quick Grades

Agents of SHIELD – 3 out of 5
Pretty flashy pilot. I enjoyed it and the series has great potential (and so far the episodes get better each week)!

Bones – 4.5 out of 5
Lovely episode. Fantastic acting from both David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel.

Castle – 4 out of 5
Interesting new setting and it comes with lots of new problems for Castle & Beckett.

NCIS – 2.5 out of 5
Mixed thoughts and mainly disappointed in Ziva’s farewell. I just get sadder the more I think about these first two season 11 episodes.

“You brightened our world
through dance and through song
And for so many,
created a place to belong.

But now the world is darker
and everything seems wrong
Because now…

You are simply gone.”

As everyone has probably heard by now, Cory Monteith (Glee) was found dead in his hotel room Saturday, July 13. The news was shocking. Fans, friends, and co-stars have all expressed their grief and their surprise at the death of a talented young man who was much too young to leave this world. My heart and prayers are with his family, Lea Michele (his girlfriend and co-star), his friends, and his fans. The loss of someone we love is always devastating, but when the loss is of someone so young, so vibrantly alive it feels all the more crippling. We can’t console ourselves with the fact that he lived a long, full life. There will always be the “what if…” lingering in the back of our minds. With any loss there is a void, a blank space where someone we once cared for resided, but when the loss is so shocking and unexpected that void quickly becomes full of questions that may never be answered. I cannot imagine the pain and grief that those who knew him closely are feeling, but I can say that, as a fan, I’m deeply saddened by the loss of someone who would likely have accomplished much more and who has been beloved by thousands, if not millions, fans since the day Glee premiered.

Sunday

Once Upon a Time

once-upon-a-time-222  “And Straight on Til Morning”

The Good:

  • Regina willingly stepping into the role of sacrificial lamb was definitely one of the highlights of this finale (even though it seemed a bit random).
  • Any/All of the moments between Belle and Gold. The scene where he “reawakens” her is absolutely beautiful and quite touching.
  • Hook returning to save the day. I knew he couldn’t just sail away, and I felt so justified when he saves the day a la Han Solo (Star Wars).
  • AURORA, MULAN, and PHILLIP FINDING NEAL!! Yes, I know most people despise these characters, but I adore them. I’m really hoping we’ll get some flashbacks for them in season 3, and I love that they’re helping Neal (who better stay alive!).
  • The final cliffhanger: the sketch of Henry the lost boys have….it opens up a lot of theories for next season and is a great way to get people to tune back in.

The Bad:

  • The potion to return Belle her memories just seemed too easy after months of trying to “fix her.”
  • Peter Pan is set-up to be the bad guy in season 3, which is a major disappointment to me as Peter has always been one of my literary heroes.
  • I feel like the fail-safe to the curse ended up being rather melodramatic and way too easy to defeat. It was all life-or-death drama, and suddenly Emma joins her magic to Regina’s and bingo that’s it.
  • Greg and Tamara living. I cannot stand these two characters, and I think their plot just takes away from the beauty that was OUaT in season 1. With these two living, I have a lot of doubts about season 3.
  • Belle staying behind in Storybrooke. Belle and Rumple have been separated far too much, and Emilie de Ravin has too much talent to be left behind.

Final Grade: B

NCISNCIS_s10finale

“Damned If You Do”

The Good:

  • Tension! This episode kept your heart racing and your mind guessing.
  • As always, I love any episode that highlights the familial bond and the deep friendships of the NCIS team, and I believe this episode showcased that perfectly.
  • Gibbs or nothing. Ziva, Tony, and McGee make it clear that they value Gibbs more than NCIS, which is a beautiful moment.
  • NCIS addressing the question that all fans have surely asked at some point….Can Gibbs always bend the rules and get away with it? It was a fantastic choice for the show to address a realistic concern.
  • The guest stars: Mike Franks (Muse Watson) and Admiral Chegwidden (John M. Jackson) both make appearances. The first has been one of my favorite recurring guest stars in the history of NCIS, and the second was a wonderful nod to NCIS’s beginning as a spin-off of JAG where John M. Jackson was a series regular for several years(and he plays the same character here that he did in JAG).

The Bad:

  • The last moments. What the *blank* is going on?! This has to be a manipulation of time/space because NCIS cannot mess with that duo.

Final Grade: A+

arrowfinaleArrow

“Sacrifice”

The Good:

  • Everything. Haha. But seriously this finale was virtually flawless. It had everything that a good finale requires: action, peril, romance, and drama.
  • Oliver’s escape at the start of the episode was pretty epic (although not nearly as awesome as Nikita’s).
  • Oliver and Laurel’s moment at the mansion is quite sweet, although a little mysterious on Oliver’s part, but after a season of dancing around each other, it’s nice for them to have any kind of positive moment.
  • The idea of choices plays an integral part of this finale, and this idea creates some fantastic moments. Felicity finally chooses to side with Oliver and declare him a hero. Moira finally stops playing the victim and attempts to own up for her mistakes. Tommy chooses to try to stop his father at his own risk.
  • Heartbreak. I love an episode that can make you truly feel, and this episode definitely delivers. The scene between Quentin and Laurel, when he thinks he’s about to die, will tear your heartstrings. However, the scene that will make you break down and sob like a baby is Tommy’s final moments and his last conversation with Oliver. I was dying (probably also due to the fact that Tommy is/was one of my favorite characters).

The Bad:

  • Malcolm may live to see another day. I am disappointed that he may rise again in season 2, and I’m hoping he won’t become another Sylar (a villain that just WILL NOT die and outlives their usefulness to the plot).

Final Grade: A+

Thursday

The Vampire Diaries TVD_s4finale

“Graduation”

The Good:

  • Danger. Danger. Danger. With The Veil partially dropped, several awesome villains get the chance to return, which creates a lot of trouble for the Mystic Falls gang, and, as this is TVD, it keeps the viewers on their toes waiting to see who makes it out alive.
  • Klaus has an epic return. I’ll admit I haven’t been a huge Klaus fan, but I think his scenes with Caroline have been one of the highlights in this lackluster season. Plus, only Klaus could make such an entrance!
  • LEXI!! Lexi’s death remains Damon’s one truly unforgivable act, and whenever there’s a chance for her to pop back up, it means exciting things are about to go down. This episode is even better than the last few that have included Lexi as it allowed her to exist in the present. The moments between her and Stefan are wonderful albeit somewhat bittersweet.
  • Speaking of triumphant returns, Alaric’s was brilliant. The bromance between him and Damon is deftly handled, and I found myself desperate to keep Alaric around for good.
  • Rebekah and Matt. These two have been a surprise pair, and they were absolutely adorable(I’m kind of wishing Matt will jump ship and join her on The Originals).
  • DAMON AND ELENA!!!!! After the rough ride these two have had this season, and thus, the frustration delena shippers have experienced, no one should be surprised at how loud my sister and I were shrieking when these two finally had their moment! And yes, we may have rewinded and rewatched it a couple of times…
  • The episode’s cliffhangers were absolutely amazing as well! Katherine is now human. How in the world will she handle that? Jeremy is alive, but at the cost of Bonnie’s life. What will happen when that secret breaks loose? Stefan is a doppelgänger and Silas has swapped him out. I can only imagine how fun that must be for Paul Wesley.

The Bad:

  • We didn’t get to keep Alaric and Lexi. *sobs*

Final Grade: A+

Beauty & the Beast BATBfinale

“Never Turn Back”

The Good:

  • More information about Cat’s mother and their past. I love all of the mystery about this back-story, and I think it’s awesome how the show is slowly unraveling it.
  • Cat and Vincent remain an epic couple. Since these two have remained fairly strong all season (which is so fresh and unique!!), I was worried there would be a break-up in the finale, and I thought it was awesome that the show did not go down that route.
  • The cliffhanger was fantastic. Not only was it heartbreaking to watch Cat and Vincent be literally ripped apart, but it leaves so many questions for season 2.

The Bad:

  • Gabe being evil. Still disappointed at how he turned out.

Final Grade: A

# of Seasons Aired: Season 5 is Currently Airing

Premise: “Meet Richard Castle, a successful murder-mystery writer who just killed off his main character. It seems one of his fans liked his books just a bit too much when a copycat murderer started running around killing people as described in Castle’s books. After being questioned by the police Richard joins forces with Detective Kate Beckett to solve this case. The two become ‘partners’ and begin working together to solve other murders in New York City.” -TV.com

Thoughts: I’ve fallen quick and hard for Castle, and I can’t believe that I’m nearly caught up to the current season! Castle has continued to be hilarious, heartwarming, and all around delightful. There have been some crazy, shocking storylines (Captain!!), and some delicious drama between Castle and Beckett. Plus, of course, there is the wonderful camaraderie between Esposito, Ryan, Beckett, and Castle. I only have two episodes left in season 4, and I have been putting off watching them because I know that the finale will leave me wanting season 5. I cannot wait for the fifth season to be released onto dvd, so I can continue the delightful journey that is Castle. Until then, however, I will definitely be rewatching episodes from seasons 1-4!

Premise: “Forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan, who works at the Jeffersonian Institution and writes novels as a sideline, has an uncanny ability to read clues left behind in a victim’s bones. Consequently, law enforcement calls her in to assist with murder investigations when the remains are so badly decomposed, burned, or destroyed that the standard identification methods are useless. Brennan has been teamed with Special Agent Seeley Booth, a former Army sniper who mistrusts science and scientists when it comes to solving crimes. Brennan and Booth clash both professionally and personally, but the chemistry between them has grown since they first met and has made them a strong and trusting team.” -TV.com

Thoughts: I’ve always enjoyed the random episodes of Bones I’ve seen, but as I am nearly finished up with Castle, I decided to watch Bones in order so I can see every episode. I have seen seasons 1 & 2 multiple times, so I’m starting with season 3. This season breaks my heart, but it is a fun journey to get to that point. There are also some really stellar episodes. Bones’ father’s trial is a remarkable episode as are the episode where Booth is shot and where Zack’s wrongdoings are revealed. Bones mixes humor and drama to make a stellar show.

The show explores a medieval-like fantasy world with its plethora of characters all struggling in the only game that matters–the game of thrones. And in this game you either win or you die, there is no middle ground.” -TV.com

Thoughts: I’ve been dying for this show to come out on DVD. I may have followed the reviews and recaps of Season 2, but that still isn’t the same as actually watching it. Luckily, I was able to catch up completely last weekend thanks to DVD! I know some people didn’t like season 2 as much as the first, but I thought it was fantastic! It feels like everything and everyone is becoming more desperate, and it’s all building to some wonderful climax. Plus, this season brought in some fantastic new characters. I’m a huge fan of Osha, Ygritte, and Jaqen, so I hope they’re back for season 3. All in all this was a delightful season, and I loved seeing my favorite characters return. And there are BABY DRAGONS!! Who can resist that?!

Sunday:

-Once Upon a Time, this season continues to be fantastic. Last week’s episode may have been predictable, but there was fabulous acting all around. Plus, I just love the complications it gives the plot going forward. I am a bit sad that my favorite new characters, Aurora & Mulan, have dropped off the face of the earth. However, I have high hopes for the last leg of the season.

Monday:

-Nada

Tuesday: ZivaMourns

-NCIS, wow, just wow. This season of NCIS continues to blow me away week after week. I thought the last season or two were somewhat  lacking, but this year they have really stepped up their game! Once again this has become a must-watch show, and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season will play out.

Wednesday:

-Arrow, For a show I wasn’t even planning to watch, Arrow continues to draw me. This is a stunning debut season with a fantastic cast and a great team of writers. Definitely a worthy follow-up to Smallville. I love how the plot continues to unravel piece by piece each week, and the show also has some great supporting and guest stars!

Thursday:

-The Vampire Diaries, After a terrible slump in the midst of this season, I feel like TVD is back on solid ground again. The last few episodes have been pretty fantastic. Although I’m still heartbroken/furious about last week’s cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see where the show goes from here, and I’m so curious to see how they will set things up for the proposed spin-off.

nikitaS3Friday:

-Nikita, I am a couple of episodes behind on this one, but I had to comment on it. Season 3 has been brilliant, shocking, romantic, and just phenomenal. The entire cast continues to give flawless performances, and the writers have been tossing out some great material. Amanda has also managed to become worse of a villain than Percy ever was, and is awesome, in an evil kind of way.

Shows I’ve Dropped:

-The Carrie Diaries, I watched the first two episodes and just wasn’t interested enough to continue.

-Beauty and the Beast, If this manages to get a renewal I will definitely be catching up. The previews have looked fantastic, and Bridget Regan did a guest stint.

Shows I’m Behind On:

-The Lying Game & Pretty Little Liars, I got caught up on these over Christmas break, but I don’t think I’ve seen a single episode from this year. Oh well, spring break’s coming soon.
