Happy 4th of July

464955_10200369226287642_1673990732_oHappy Independence Day to all of my U.S. readers! I hope everyone has a safe, marvelous day!

And thank you to all who have and continue to serve and protect our country.

Updates & Art

I’ve done some behind-the-scenes work on the site lately, which is unexciting but time consuming. Most notably, I’ve transferred over and updated my credits list which can now be found here. I also posted the contest/giveaway policy here.

The rest of my computer time lately has been spent fangirling (i.e. making Doctor Who fanart). I’ve been on an art kick lately, and if you’re interested you can find my recent fanart here at my LJ. And any other spare moment has been spent actually watching Doctor Who (it’s an addiction!). I have plans to do some Doctor Who-themed posts/reviews, so keep an eye out for those sometime in the near future. In the meantime, forgive any gaps between updates and understand it’s completely the Doctor’s fault (but I just have four more seasons to go which I’m determined to complete before the 50th Anniversary Special!).

Cory Monteith

“You brightened our world
through dance and through song
And for so many,
created a place to belong.

But now the world is darker
and everything seems wrong
Because now…

You are simply gone.”

As everyone has probably heard by now, Cory Monteith (Glee) was found dead in his hotel room Saturday, July 13. The news was shocking. Fans, friends, and co-stars have all expressed their grief and their surprise at the death of a talented young man who was much too young to leave this world. My heart and prayers are with his family, Lea Michele (his girlfriend and co-star), his friends, and his fans. The loss of someone we love is always devastating, but when the loss is of someone so young, so vibrantly alive it feels all the more crippling. We can’t console ourselves with the fact that he lived a long, full life. There will always be the “what if…” lingering in the back of our minds. With any loss there is a void, a blank space where someone we once cared for resided, but when the loss is so shocking and unexpected that void quickly becomes full of questions that may never be answered. I cannot imagine the pain and grief that those who knew him closely are feeling, but I can say that, as a fan, I’m deeply saddened by the loss of someone who would likely have accomplished much more and who has been beloved by thousands, if not millions, fans since the day Glee premiered.

Christmas Wishlist

Christmas is just around the corner, and everyone is wishing for something.
Here are my top picks for DVDs, Music, and Books!

Pushing the Limits

I read an eARC of this book earlier this year, and I absolutely adored it. This is one that must be added to my shelves!

Unnaturally Green: One Girl’s Journey Along a Yellow Brick Road Less Traveled

I am obsessed with all things Wicked, and I’ve recently been devouring memoirs and biographies. I am dying to read this one.

The Tiger’s Curse saga

After reading the first two books in this series, I am dying to find about what happens to these delightful characters. This collection would be a perfect addition to my shelves.

The Space Between Us

Jessica Martinez’s debut, Virtuosity, was completely marvelous, and I am dying to see how this compares. Plus, the story sounds brilliant.

Honorable Mentions: Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson, Secret Letters by Leah Scheier, Body & Soul by Stacey Kade, and The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

Castle, Season 3 & 4

If you’ve read my TV Lately posts, you may have noticed that I’m currently a bit obsessed with this show (and if you’ve watched it, I’m sure you will understand!), so it should come as no surprise that I’m dying to get my hand on the next season(s)!

Merlin, Season 3

One of my favorite shows of all time, Merlin is brilliantly entertaining and beautifully acted. I am always looking to complete my collection of a lovely, re-watchable series!

Nikita, Season 2

I own the first season of this kickass, dramatic series, and I am looking forward to pairing it with this season (and the set’s gorgeous cover!!). Also, I haven’t finished watching season 2, which sucks because season 3 has looked amazing so far, and I tend to watch things faster when I have it on DVD.

Dark Knight Rises

One of my favorite films of the year, I cannot wait to own it so I can watch the delicious, gritty story unfold again and again.

Honorable Mentions: Avengers, People Like Us, Once Upon a Time season 1, Leverage season 2, Lemonade Mouth, and Geek Charming

Hello My Name Is… – Bridgit Mendler

I’ve loved Bridgit Mendler since she first appeared on Wizards of Waverly Place, and I am really looking forward to listening to her debut cd.

I Stand – Idina Menzel

Idina is a brilliantly talented woman, and her voice awes me. I’ve listened to the samples of all the songs on this cd, and I am already in love.

Barton Hollows – The Civil Wars

I had never heard of this group before The Hunger Games, but after listening to their songs on the soundtrack for that film, I am desperate to savor the rest of their music.

Honorable Mentions: Love Never Dies soundtrack, Blown Away – Carrie Underwood, Sigh No More – Mumford & Sons

What are you wishing for this year?

Familiar Faces #1

Familiar Faces

Brought to you with the purpose of identifying all those familiar faces that keep popping up on your TV.

Laura Marano

Currently: Ally on Austin & Ally (Disney Channel)

I happened to catch an episode of Austin & Ally, and I was struck by how familiar Laura Marano looked. I was quite excited to learn that the reason she looked so much like Bay on Switched at Birth is because Vanessa Marano (Bay) is her older sister.

Notable Appearances: Heroes “1961”, young Alice // Superbad, young Becca // True Jackson, VP, “Molly”

Leven Rambin

Currently: Glimmer on The Hunger Games / Clarisse on Percy Jackson 2

I love Leven Rambin, and not just because she’s been on a ton of shows I love. She’s entertaining, and she’s able to play a wide range of characters. Also, I’m sure you have seen her in something.

Notable Appearances: One Tree Hill, “Chloe” // Wizards of Waverly Place, “Rosie” // Grey’s Anatomy, “Sloane
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, “Riley” // All My Children, “Ally” and “Lily”

Arielle Kebbel

Currently: Jessie on A Bride for Christmas / Marissa on Audrey

Arielle Kebbel is one of my favorite scene-stealers. She can guest star on a show, and her character will be my favorite of the series. Like Leven Rambin, she has definitely been in something you have seen.

Notable Appearances: 90210, “Vanessa” // The Vampire Diaries, “Lexi” // Life Unexpected, “Paige” // True Blood, “Charlene”
Vampires Suck, “Rachel” // Aquamarine, “Cecilia” // Gilmore Girls, “Lindsay” // John Tucker Must Die, “Carrie”
